We have published our Annual Review 2025, reflecting on a pivotal year for Shabaka and the wider humanitarian and development sectors.
In 2025, amid an unprecedented humanitarian funding crisis, Shabaka took the difficult but principled decision to pause programming. This was not a failure — it was a choice consistent with our values. We have always argued that organisations should exist to serve communities, not to perpetuate themselves.
The review covers key achievements from the year, including the independence of CCU Sudan (Sudan Unit) and AMEC Global, our six major publications and the launch of our Strategic Framework 2026–2030.
Looking ahead, Shabaka is resuming operations as a practice-oriented research and advisory organisation — centring diaspora and mutual aid leadership, strengthening capacity, and stepping back.
