Maria Castro, Shabaka Project Coordinator, show us how to make Arepas. She talks about how Arepas is a traditional dish in Venezuela making them a common appearance at parties and celebrations and how they remind her of fond memories with family in Venezuela.

  • Filing
    • 1 1/2 lb. chicken breasts
    • 1/2 small onion
    • 2 garlic cloves
    • coarse sea salt
    • ground black pepper
    • 2 avocados
    • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
    • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
    • 1/2 cup red bell pepper
    • 1/4 cup scallions
    • 2 tablespoons cilantro
  • Arepas
    • 2 cups arepa flour
    • 2 cups warn water
    • 1 teaspoon sea salt
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
