Technology and the Diaspora

Technology and the Diaspora

Over the last few years we have been tracking the use of technology among diasporas, especially during crises. This goes beyond the, now mundane, act of money transfer which although vital is as instinctive as eating or sleeping. In the latest episode of our Shabaka Talks podcast series we talk tech with Ismail Einashe, an award-winning journalist and writer who has written for The Guardian, BBC News, The Sunday Times, Foreign Policy, The New York Times, Frieze, ArtReview, and The Nation, among many others.

We explore the role that technology can and does play in the every day lives of diasporas and migrants.

The role of mobile phones and technology can have both positive and negative effects on migrants on the move, especially younger ones.
